Connecting Peers
Cross-Culturally

Start: February 2020
Finish: June 2024

This project is supporting peers in culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities to build and sustain peer support networks.

  • Training for new peers to deliver peer support in their communities
  • Opportunities for new communities to work with us to set up peer support structures
  • Peer-led community events on topics identified by the communities we work with
  • Events such as information sessions and themed workshops

NSW Peer
Learning Hub

Start: February 2020
Finish: June 2024

This project aims to build the capacity of the peer network throughout NSW and a CDAH and DDA.

For this project, trained peers will:

  • Hold 10 events across NSW promoting peer support around a range of topics identified by local peers.
  • Deliver 10 ‘Introduction to Peer Support’ training programs
  • Provide follow up support to peers as they set up new peer support groups
  • Hold two events annually for peers coordinators to share their experiences and learning
  • Have a community of practice facilitated by trained peers
  • Hold a NSW Peer Support Conference, by peers for peers!

Powerful Peers

Start: June 2021
Finish: June 2024

This project provides peers in culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities with opportunity to access a trained peer mentor and get trained to become a peer mentor.

  • Peer mentors can support you, if you have a goal you want to achieve
  • Peer mentors can share with you experiences and knowledge.
  • Peer mentors work with you on ideas, your skills and strengths
  • Peer mentors built your confidence.
  • Peer mentors work with you on areas like the NDIS, studying, work, living independently and more

Circles of
Support

Start: February 2020
Finish: June 2024

Diversity and Disability Alliance (DDAlliance)'s official logo.

This project aims to introduce the circles of support model to peers and families from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

  • An opportunity for people with disability (peers) to work with a team of facilitators with lived experience
  • Peers will be supported to make their own decisions, do the things they want to do in life whilst start a circle of support with the people they trust and value
  • Circles of support resources are currently being developed that will be available to peers and their communities

Evaluation

CDAH and DDA conducted a research project looking at the challenges and benefits of peer support try to improve people’s experiences in this space. This project led by researcher with lived experience of disability, in partnership with University of Newcastle and Carrie Hayter consulting.

The team has produced a report that outlines how we did the research, what we found, and what we recommend  You can download different version of the report below.
